Speak the Word Ministries, Seaborne Stealers, and the National Guard Hummers opened their 2010 Bob Owens playoff runs with victories Monday night at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park. STW knocked off the Dirty Dozen 14-4, the Stealers ambushed the Cartel 20-6, and the Hummers edged Anchor Dive 9-3.
Speak the Word 14, Dirty Dozen 4
The Dirty Dozen were sent packing Monday night in the opening game of the 2010 Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League playoffs. It was STW with 14 runs on 12 hits and three errors, while the Dozen finished with four runs on eight hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Gabriel Jagrup, and Jason Roberts got the loss. Top hitters for Speak the Word were Norbert Pickering (2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs) and Ulric Benjamin (3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Brian Bailey was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Jason Roberts was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
Stealers 20, Cartel 6
The Seaborne Stealers sent a powerful message to the rest of the league with a resounding 20-6 thrashing of the Cartel as they began their playoff run. The Stealers amassed 20 runs on 18 hits and two errors, while the Cartel plated six runs on nine hits and four errors. Sam Ramos got the win on the hill, and James Smith got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Owen Pimentel (3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs) and Guido Schjang (3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Cartel, Daren Lewis was 1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI, and Eddie Dunkirk was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
Hummers 9, Anchor Dive 3
The National Guard Hummers got the best of Anchor Dive in the closest contest of the day. It was the Hummers with nine runs on 11 hit and four errors, while anchor Dive finished with three runs on eight hits and three errors. Roy Vialet was the winning pitcher, while Edwin Sankitts got the loss for Anchor Dive. The Hummers were led offensively by Kai Schjang (2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs) and Mervin Mills (2 for 3 with two RBIs). For Anchor Dive, Juan Burgos was 2 for 4 with a home run and one RBI.
