VIPD Names Officers of the Month

Among those honored as officers of the month over the last two months by the V.I. Police Department are officers who have processed and made several felony arrests, along with others helped to clean up the streets in both districts by confiscating various guns and drugs.

A news release from the V.I. Police Department this week outlined the six honorees.

On St. Croix, the officer of the month for November was Detective Gregory Charlery, assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit. During November, she made two felony and one misdemeanor arrest, which included a suspect charged with assaulting his wife and daughter with a machete.

Charlery works in a "sensitive environment" and goes "above and beyond" on every case she’s assigned to, according to the VIPD release.

"Her work in this unit makes St. Croix a safer place to live," the release said.

Officer Ralston Wright was named St. Croix’s officer of the month for December. While conducting seven traffic stops on the island, Wright was able to confiscate more than 100 grams of marijuana and three illegal guns.

"Due to his diligence and pledge to make the roads a safer place to drive, a drunk driver was taken off the roads and another was cited for not having a driver’s license," the release said. Wright made a total of 11 arrests, completed 10 reports and issued seven citations last month.

On St. Thomas, Officer Arleen Greaux-Blyden was named officer of the month for November. A 15-year VIPD veteran, she processed 47 arrests that month between the department and Justice.

A regular fixture downtown, Officer Eddison Spratley is St. Thomas’ officer of the month for December. A 12-year-veteran of the department, Spratley issued 80 traffic tickets last month, according to the VIPD release.

On St. John, Officer Derrick Callwood, a seven-year veteran assigned to the Patrol Division at the Leander Jurgen Command, picked up the officer of the month award for November. Callwood has a "wealth of knowledge" in handling traffic and investigation matters, and is often found helping the other detectives assigned to the station.

Officer Sehreka Tyson was St. John’s officer of the month for December. Tyson graduated from the VIPD Training Academy last July and has been assigned to the Jurgen Command. Since last October, Tyson has led the squad in the number of reports taken, arrests made and traffic citations issued, according to the release.

"Although she was the newest member to this pack, she showed a willingness to learn and absorb as much knowledge as she can," the release said. "Officer Tyson will be a great officer if she continues the same course."
