V.I. Homeland Security Conducts Emergency Operations Training

The V.I. Office of Homeland Security will conduct Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Operations and Planning for All-Hazards Events training on St. Croix and St. Thomas. The three-day training will begin Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Charles Harwood Medical Complex on St. Croix; and on Monday, Dec. 14, at the UVICELL Center on St. Thomas. All sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants in this training will include emergency responders, supervisor and managers representing a number of agencies such as VITEMA, Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, St. Thomas Rescue and the American Red Cross. The course provides the opportunity for participants to practice emergency management and gain practical experience in individual and group processes necessary to manage an Emergency Operations Center. Participants will also get a better understanding of the management requirements and skills necessary to effectively coordinate and support the response. The EOC training is funded by a grant through the V.I. Office of Homeland Security and administered by the University of the Virgin Islands – Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center, which serves as the official training center for the V.I. Office of Homeland Security.
For more information on the training, contact Ayopha Stalliard of UVICELL, at 693-1106 or Irvin Mason of V.I. Office of Homeland Security at 626-2629.
