Hospital Demonstrates Savings from Solar Energy

Jan. 14, 2009 – The Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center will soon demonstrate how the use of alternative energy can bring down water and electric bills. To initiate the project, Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. will present a check to hospital officials at 1 p.m., on Jan. 15, at the new Bennie and Martha Benjamin Conference Center on the lower level of the Cardiac Care Center.
The Virgin Islands Energy Office, a division of the governor's office, has signed an agreement with the hospital to give the hospital a grant to build a 30 kW photovoltaic system. The VIEO donation, with a total value of around $400,000 includes 500 solar panels. More information about the project will be available at the event.
