Dear Source:
Rev Ed Cullens definition of marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman and his proposal that it be included in the Constitution automatically excludes marriage of gays. His attempt to deny that is simply not credible.
No definition of marriage should appear in any government ruling document, whether it be a constitution or legislation. Marriage is strictly a matter of religion. Unions between gays and between heterosexuals should be treated equally under the law. As the parent of a gay woman, I am particularly affronted by this religious assault. As a retired lawyer and retired law professor, I am unswervingly devoted to the U.S. Constitutions separation of church and state. Anyone who understands the history of our country should appreciate the reason for this provision. It is not an anti-religion provision. It is a recognition that religion and the state must be kept separate. Anyone who doesnt understand that should review American history.
Anyone presenting himself as a Christian should be focusing on love, not hate. Cullens definition is nothing short of a governmental codification of hatred.
