Dec. 9, 2008 Students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University of the Virgin Islands have an opportunity to express their loyalty to UVI with the introduction of the UVI Buccaneer License Plate Program, an initiative that allows Virgin Islands vehicle owners to display customized University of the Virgin Islands license plates. Funds raised by the program will support the UVI Athletic Scholarship Fund, according to a release from UVI.
This is an excellent way to show support for UVI while at the same time benefiting the UVI Athletic Scholarship Fund, UVI Athletic Director Peter Sauer said. The license plates provide another way to promote UVI in our community.
UVI Assistant Athletic Director Dr. Jerry Smith is the architect of the UVI Buccaneer License Plate Program. I am elated to be able to offer this excellent fundraising initiative to the University community, he said.
UVI Buccaneer license plates will be sold on St. Thomas and St. Croix at a cost of $75 to UVI students, faculty, staff and alumni. The sale, distribution and storage of license plates will be handled by the Universitys book stores on UVIs St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses.
The owners of the first five plates — numbers 001 to 005 — will be determined by an auction that will be coordinated by UVIs Office of Institutional Advancement during the Universitys 2009 Spring Semester Charter Week in March.
