Softball Inc., Wyatt Heat and Code 9 Dominate Hovensa Slow-Pitch Softball Action

Sept. 14, 2007 — In the first game of the Hovensa softball league Thursday night, Softball Inc. blasted Master Batters 15-3 in five innings by way of the 10-run mercy rule.
Timothy Wilson pitched the win for Softball Inc., while Samuel Wright got the loss for Master Batters.
Top hitters for Softball Inc. were Cody St. Pierre, 3 for 3 with two home runs and seven RBIs; Tim Gillespie, 3 for 3 with one RBI; and Nelson, 2 for 2 with one RBI. For Master Batters, Joey Jones went 2 for 2 with one RBI and Victor Morrero went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
In the second game, defending champions Wyatt Heat and ace pitcher David Oetken turned up the heat on Cross Tech by shutting them out 10-0 in another five-inning, 10-run mercy-ruled contest. Wyatt Heat had 10 runs, 12 hits and two errors, while Cross Tech had no runs and five hits with three errors. Bill Harris got the loss for Cross Tech.
Wyatt Heat’s offensive attack was led by Andre Ponce, 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs; Spencer Hendrickson, 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs; and Edwin Derweer, 3 for 3 with one RBI. For Cross Tech, Neal Davis went 2 for 2 and Carlos Sanabria went 1 for 2.
In the nightcap, Code 9 roughed up the Suns 10-2 in yet another one-sided affair. Code 9 had 10 runs on 14 hits while committing two errors, and the Suns had two runs on eight hits while committing three errors. The winning pitcher was Julio Carmona, while Timothy Daley took the loss for the Suns.
Top hitters for Code 9 were Jeffery Naar, 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs and Sonia Soto, 2 for 3 with one RBI. For the Suns, Earl Barwick went 2 for 2 with one RBI and Chris Bowman went 1 for 2 with one RBI.
The action continues at 6 p.m. Tuesday with three scheduled games. In game one, Master Batters will take on Cross Tech. Game two will see perennial powerhouse Wyatt Heat go up against the Suns. The third and final game of the night should be a good one, as the Cartel will take on Code 9 in a matchup of two of the league’s elite teams.
