UVICELL Seeks Taxi Drivers for Certification Program

Oct. 3, 2007 – The University of the Virgin Islands' Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center is actively seeking licensed taxi drivers for the upcoming Taxi and Tour Certification Program.
The program is designed to equip tourism professionals with the necessary skills to impart accurate information to tourists about the history and cultural heritage of the Virgin Islands. The twelve-hour certification program covers customer service, history and culture, points of interest and presentation skills. It will conclude with a written and oral exam.
The course is scheduled to be taught from 6-8 p.m., Oct. 11, and will continue every Thursday through Nov. 15. The training will cost $250 including materials. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a certification identification card. They will also be eligible for a decal and emblem with the certification logo, distinguishing the graduates as certified taxi and tour guides.
Interested participants can contact the UVICELL Center at 693-1100 or visit http://cell.uvi.edu.
