Feb. 11, 2008 – It was intimate, yet over 100 Virgin Islanders came out Friday and Saturday night for the third annual Water Island Classical Music Festival. Julian Gargiulo brought a cadre of three other Carnegie Hall-caliber musicians to entertain a very enthusiastic audience.
Alessandro "Saladin" Cote played exquisite renditions of Spanish classical guitar. Operatic soprano Roza Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan sang Russian songs by Rachmaninoff with a pure and note perfect voice. Julian Gargiulo amazed the audience with a flawless performance of Beethoven's "Tempest," and Maria Yefimova presented a shimmering performance of Prokofiev's Second Piano Concerto.
There is one additional evening of classical music at the festival at 7 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 11, with ferry service available at 6 p.m.
