Feb. 27, 2008 – One of the many activities that celebrate French Heritage Week in July, the 20th Anniversary Bastille Day Kingfish Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, July 13, at Hull Bay Hideaway, St. Thomas.
All anglers are invited to join in the competition. Last year, Nikolas Murdjeff, aboard a Waters Edge Sports boat, reeled in the largest kingfish, a 32.54-pounder and took home prizes that included $2,000 in cash. Murdjeff won in only one of over a dozen prize categories. Award categories also include best boat, best captain, lady anglers, junior anglers and other fish species like jack, bonito, tuna, mackerel and dolphin.
Fishing starts at 5:30 a.m. and ends at noon, sharp, when the beach side party then begins at Hull Bay Hideaway, with food, music and fun right up until the time for the awards ceremony, according to a press release from the Northside Sportfishing Club.
The tournament benefits the Joseph Sibilly School, St. Thomas Rescue, The American Red Cross and The Family Resource Center, and also provides college scholarships for students of French descent.
