July 20, 2008 — Police on St. Croix nabbed four suspects Saturday minutes after they allegedly fled the scene of a burglary.
The burglary occurred in the area of Estate Welcome, around 4:46 a.m. Saturday, according to a V.I. Police Department news release.
Two men and a woman were held up at gunpoint outside their residence, police said, and the perpetrators burglarized the home and assaulted one of the victims. According to preliminary reports, two police units responding to the scene noticed a car speeding away from the area, and pursued the vehicle. A passenger in the back seat got out on Company Street, and police followed, apprehending the suspect after chasing him on foot. Meanwhile, the second police unit stopped the vehicle and picked up the three other suspects, the release said.
The suspects — Selvin Serrano Jr. and Adrian Gerard, both 19 years old and from the JFK Housing Community, along with Isaiah John Murray, 20, of Estate La Vallee — were arrested and charged with first degree robbery, burglary and assault, and possession of an unlicensed firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.
The fourth suspect, whose name has not been released, will be facing similar charges after he is released from the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.
Police said they believe the suspects could be linked to other crimes that have occurred around the island.
"I am confident we are on the right track, and these arrests will lead to the successful closing of several outstanding crimes," said St. Croix Police Chief Oakland Benta.
