May 3, 2002 – What's new for "Friday Night Alternative"?
"We may or may not have a fashion show this Friday — anybody's guess, I guess," says Corinne Van Rensselaer, who as organizer of the weekly music-and-more gatherings at American Yacht Harbor would probably be among the first to know.
With or without models on the boardwalk, there will be the usual live music, wine and cheese, sunset socializing and opportunities to peruse local art and take some chances for some good causes.
Margaret Dean was last week's April winner in the monthly art raffle that benefits "Friday Night Alternative." A new framed print for the end-of-May drawing will be on display Friday, with tickets on sale at The Color of Joy gallery and boutique all month long.
The Red Hook Community Alliance has an information table set up Friday evenings on the AYH Marlin Deck where "FNA" takes place. The group also raffles off prizes — "great stuff," Van Rensselaer says.
The "Alternative" music is mostly mainstream — jazz, blues, folk and more — and it goes from 6 to around 8 p.m. With house keyboard/vocals artist Sally Smith otherwise occupied this weekend at Pistarckle Theater's annual fund-raiser, Marty Beechler is the point person for the songs — with Friends, of course.
