April 23, 2003 – As is customary, most Virgin Islands government employees will receive time off with pay next week so they can attend V.I. Carnival events.
Government workers on St. Thomas and St. John will have time off from noon to 5 p.m. on April 30 to attend the Food Fair and from 8 a.m. to noon on May 1 for J'ouvert.
V.I. employees throughout the territory will have all of May 2 off to attend the Children's Parade.
Gov. Charles W. Turnbull in his announcement said that the time off, called administrative leave, does not apply to those persons designated as essential employees, those on a regular rotating shift and those on annual or sick leave.
