Ship on St. Thomas Schedule Named Best for Families

Oct. 29, 2004 – The Holland America Line cruise ship Zuiderdam has been named best cruise option for an extended family by "Parents" magazine.
The Zuiderdam visits St. Thomas this season weekly on Tuesdays starting Nov. 2, remaining in port until midnight, through May 3, 2005, according to the West Indian Co.
The Travel Industry Association says each year five million American families take a multi-generational vacation, defined as having three or more generations traveling together. This particular ship was recognized by "Parents" because it specifically appeals to multi-generational guests.
The article's author, Lauren Bernstein, highlighted ship's amenities like two outdoor pools, a full-service spa, gym, golf simulator, cyber cafe and "Club HAL," a youth activity program.
The ship carries 1,848 passengers and 800 crew, according to the Holland America Web site.
Zuiderdam alternates weeklong eastern and western Caribbean itineraries departing on Saturdays from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The eastern cruises sail to the Bahamas, St. Thomas and Tortola.
