Lagoon1

Beaches starting from the Krause Lagoon to the Sandy Point area were once major nesting sites for sea turtles. Once the largest lagoon in the Virgin Islands, now it is the industrial complex of the south shore of St. Croix. Farmlands around the lagoon and the lagoon itself were destroyed to make way for Harvey Aluminum Corporation and the Hess Oil Refinery. This photo was taken in 1962, before Krause Lagoon was destroyed. (Photographer unknown)
