Tan tan

Between the mid 1700 to 1800, Tan-tan ( Leuceaema leucocephala) was introduced into the Danish West Indies for animal feed. Today, Tan-tan is an invasive species and one of the plants that impacted streams in the Virgin Islands. “It is thought by many that the declining agricultural use of the land, especially on St. Croix and consequent growth of deep-rooted, heavy water using plants such as invasive species plants as tan-tan ( Leucoedema leucocephala) and casha ( Acacia sp.) have eliminated the based flow of our perennial larger streams year-round.” (Photo by Olasee Davis)
