Hurricane flood

In Oldendorp’s writing, he mentioned, “like standing surface water, come up after a rainfall and are called guts, or waterguts. Some of these dry up almost entirely in the dry season; and others, during the rainy season swell to such an extent that they can scarcely be crossed.” This photo was taken during the 1916 hurricane. This stream or small river headwater started from Mount Stewart over 800 feet above sea level. (Photo courtesy Library of Congress)
