The Department of Health Primary Care Office will host a daylong symposium entitled “Addressing Health Professional Shortages” in both the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix districts for all interested health care providers and professionals. The symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at the V.I. Cardiac Center’s Bennie and Martha Benjamin Foundation’s Conference Center on St. Croix and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Windward Passage Hotel Conference Room on St. Thomas, according to a press release issued Monday by the V.I. Department of Health.
Invited speakers and panelists include Acting Health Commissioner Darice Plaskett, Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan Jr. as well as representatives from the territory’s hospitals, clinics and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) National Health Service Corps Regional Office.
Among the topics are the HRSA loan repayment and scholarship incentives for health care workers as well as a discussion on the current health workforce investment and development efforts and information relative to health professional shortage,dd and designation as medically underserved
Registration is at 8 a.m., but residents who wish to pre-register should call 773-1311, ext. 3173. Space is limited, and a free continental breakfast and lunch will be served.
