St. John Man Arrested in August Assault

Police on St. John arrested Brummell Germain, 33, around 11:25 a.m. Tuesday on assault and other charges in connection with an August incident in Cruz Bay.

Germain’s arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands in November.

According to police, Germain and a 31-year-old male had a brief altercation in a nightclub on Aug. 8. Germain, who had a licensed firearm, followed the man when he left the area. Police said Germain threatened him while holding the handgun and fired two shots to the ground after the man punched him.

Police said Germain’s firearm license was issued for home and business protection only. Licensed holders can have their firearms confiscated or licenses revoked if they violate the conditions of their license, St. Thomas/St. John Firearms Bureau Supervisor Elfreda Robinson said.

Germain was charged with third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and illegal discharge of a firearm. Bail was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
