A man from Georgia was killed and another wounded early Wednesday morning after a shooting in Christiansted, according to a report from the V.I. Police Department.
At about 12:56 a.m. Wednesday, 911 received reports of shots fired at Chris’ Hideaway in Christiansted, according to the police. While officers were at the scene investigating they received word that two victims were at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital being treated for wounds.
One victim, a 22-year-old man, died, and the second, a 20-year-old man, was reported as “fighting for his life” late Wednesday morning.
The names of the victims were not released by police. According to the statement, both men are from Atlan6ta, Ga., and were staying in Sion Farm.
The police report suggests the two victims were patronizing Chris’ Hideaway when the incident took place.
“Arrests are imminent in this matter and the individuals involved in this matter will be brought before the magistrate within a few hours,” St. Croix Police Chief Oakland Benta said in the statement issued Wednesday morning.
He added that the suspects had shown, “flagrant disrespect and wanton disregard for any other person’s safety, as it indicates that those individuals were patronizing this establishment at the time that these individuals began their gunfight.”
He promised the community would know soon about the arrest of the suspects.
The death was the second homicide in the territory since the start of the year. A man was killed early Monday morning in Frederiksted. Police have not yet released the name of that victim.
