Armed Resident Scares Off Intruders

Two burglars fled a home they entered in Estate Lindberg Friday after the 63-year-old homeowner fired his own gun twice, according to a statement from the V.I. Police Department.

The homeowner told police he was sleeping and was awakened by two armed men around 10:30 p.m. who gestured for him to open the safe, according to the VIPD. The victim said he told the suspects he did not have any money in the safe, but he had money in another room. The victim went to the other room, closed the door, got his own gun, which was licensed, and fired at least two shots through the closed door. The suspects fled the scene.

The preliminary investigation found the suspects entered the residence through a glass door in the living room. The suspects took a cell phone and less than $100 that was in the kitchen area.

Securely locking up before going to bed or leaving the home, using security bars, motion sensor lights and alarm systems all reduce the chances of being burglarized or robbed in your home, the VIPD advised in the statement.

This case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives. Police urge anyone who has any information on this burglary to call detectives at 714-9834, 715-5522. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
