Volunteer Training Set for Project Homeless Connect

Volunteer training will begin Tuesday for those who want to help out with Project Homeless Connect.

The Department of Human Services in partnership with the United Way of St. Thomas/St. John will host Project Homeless Connect 2012 on Friday, Oct. 12 on St. Thomas, and Oct. 26 on St. John.

Volunteers are needed for escorts, guides, greeters, and wait staff. Those interested can attend one of two training sessions planned for Tuesday – at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – at the Department of Human Services Sugar Estate Head Start conference room.

The project is an all-out, one-day community effort in which people work directly with the homeless population. It includes medical, nutritional, clothing and hygiene help, among many other services.

Anyone who wants more information or to volunteer can contact the United Way of St. Thomas/St. John at 774-3185.
