Gas Prices Up, Then Down

The wholesale price of gas from Hovensa's rack went up by one cent, to $2.99 per gallon for regular, while premium declined by five cents to $3.34 per gallon for the week of July 23, according to Hovensa.

A week earlier, Hovensa ended several months of weekly price reductions, increasing the price of regular by 11 cents and premium by 15 cents per gallon.

Prices do not include the territory's fuel tax, which was recently increased to 14 cents per gallon, with a portion set aside for new generating equipment for the V.I. Water and Power Authority.

Meanwhile, as of July 19, the least expensive gas at the pump on St. Croix was $3.50 per gallon for regular and $3.94 for premium, according to the Division of Licensing and Consumer Affairs' latest gas price survey.

The best prices on St. Thomas were $4.35 per gallon for regular, and $4.65 for premium, and St. John's one gas station was selling regular at $4.35 and premium at $4.78 per gallon, according to DLCA.
