Sail and Power Squadron Swears in Commander With Traditional Ceremony

Officials, family and friends representing the U.S. Sail and Power Squadron both locally as well as District Command from Puerto Rico, will gather this Sunday on Water Island, U.S.V.I., as Commander Lawrence O. Benjamin and his bridge officers will be installed for their second term at the annual Change of Watch ceremony. Ceremonies are to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, and will be conducted on the shores of Honeymoon Beach, Water Island. In upholding the St. Thomas Squadron’s long standing tradition, the local ceremony will be conducted in knee-deep water with all of the formal pomp and circumstance that denotes this vital and significant Marine Association.
The Squadron is a part of the United States Power Squadrons District 33. The USPS is the largest all-volunteer, not-for-profit, boating education organization in the U.S. The USPS mission is to “promote recreational boating safety through education and civic service while providing fellowship for its members.”
To defray the cost of the reception afterwards, a donation of $25 is required. Those planning to attend should contact Commander Benjamin at 774-8046. Public ferry service is available from Crown Bay Marina.
