Virgin Islands sports legend Valmy “VT” Thomas of Estate Constitution Hill passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 16. He is survived by his wife, Lydia M. Nico Thomas; daughters: Shelley, Juliette and Lisa Thomas; son, Valmy Thomas Jr.; grandchildren: Shelbourne Simeon, Kerry Davila, Kemi Hunter, Kasey Roberts, Tad and Taudia Nysha Todmann, Okori Christopher, Kyle Foster and Valmy Thomas III; great-grandchildren: Jafari Johnson, T’Mae and Tea’ Daley, Tobias and Tymon Hunter, Naia Crump, Logan and Justin Roberts, Tai Todmann and DyQuan St. Louis; and great-great grandchild, Josiah Johnson.
He is also survived by sister, Florence C. Adams; nieces: Phillipa McLean, Michelle Adams-Rivera, Yvonne Adams, Mellonie Adams-Tutein, Patricia and Judy DeCambra, Paulette Guiougou, Armancia Nico Watts, Michele, Nickisha, Naisha Nico; nephews: Bruce, Valmy, Rex and Ejnar Adams, Wayne and Eric Bough, Adelbert Jr., Anthony and Miguel Nico Jr; great nieces: Anya Rivera, Loyda Williams, Monet Landry, Marisa Nico and Nyesha Adams; great nephews: Alexander, Tyrell and Jayden Adams, Jamal Samuel, Onel Rivera, Blake Nico and Jareem Tutein; great-great nephews: Alex and Axel Adams, Carmelo Williams, Kendorien and Marcelis Rivera; sisters-in-law: Alejandra (Lydia), Carmen Gloria and Anneliese (Liz) Nico; brothers-in-law: Nicasio Jr., Adelbert Sr., Miguel Sr. Elliott Nico and Roy DeCambra; and godchildren: Edna-Mae Schuster Billing and Rodd Samuel.

A special viewing will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, at James Memorial Funeral Home. A second viewing and tributes will take place at 9 a.m. and a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Friedensthal Moravian Church in Christiansted. Interment will follow at the Veteran’s Section of Kingshill Cemetery.
