Police on St. Thomas are investigating two robberies and a grand larceny that occurred over the weekend. Two cases involved women whose purses were stolen. The third case involved a visitor who was robbed.
According to the V.I. Police Department’s report:
• At about 6:30 p.m. Friday a woman told police she had been dining in the Hubbly Bubbly restaurant when an unknown person grabbed her purse, which was resting on the table. Security personnel nearby chased the suspect and apprehended him. He was identified as a 17-year-old male minor. The purse was returned to the victim. The minor was placed into protective custody pending his appearance at Juvenile Court.
• At about 9 p.m. the same day another victim reported to police that she and a female friend were walking west on Main Street when they noticed two men walking toward them. When the men got close, one grabbed the victims’ purse and ran toward Back Street. The suspect was not apprehended. The victim said the purse contained cash, her iPhone, documents and her Swedish passport.
• At about 10:30 p.m. Sunday police responded to a report of a person robbed and assaulted. The male victim told police he had been walking in the area of Kongens Gade when he was approached by three men who attacked and robbed him. The victim said one suspect wore a red scarf over his face and he could not describe the other suspects because of poor lighting in the area. The suspects took $200 cash, credit cards, and his Danish passport. The 49-year-old victim was treated at the Schneider Regional Medical Center for bruises and lacerations to his head and nose.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are investigating these cases.
