Two Injured in Separate Shootings

Two men were injured in separate non-fatal shootings that occurred Friday evening in Estate Fortuna, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Police said one victim was injured by gunfire on the north side of Fortuna, and about 45 minutes later another man was reported shot on the south side of Fortuna. At this time police do not believe that the two shootings are related, however the investigation will explore all leads, the press release said.

At about 6:20 p.m. Friday police received a call from 911 emergency dispatchers of a shooting victim in Estate Fortuna. According to the initial police report, a 22-year-old man said he was walking near his home when he heard shots fired and realized he had been shot in his side.

About forty-five minutes later a concerned citizen called 911 and reported another gunshot victim. In the initial report of that shooting, officers said a 23-year-old man was shot in his hand. Initially, the victim would not answer police questions but later told police he was near a friend's home on the south side of Fortuna when he was shot.

Both victims were taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Both victims told police that they did not know who shot them and they had no idea why someone would want to shoot them.
