Police on St. Thomas are investigating two separate Saturday shootings. A minor was injured by gunshots in Hospital Ground and another man was shot and injured near the U.S. Coast Guard dock on the waterfront, a Police Department press release indicates.

According to police reports, around 7:15 p.m. Saturday a 17-year-old male told police that he was on the basketball court in Hospital Ground when he heard shots being fired. The minor said he felt he had been shot and ran to police station. Officers transported him to the Roy L. Schneider Hospital where he was treated for gunshot injuries to his upper right leg and left foot.

The victim told police that he did not see who shot at him and did not know why anyone would want to shoot him.

About 7:50 p.m. police were dispatched to the hospital to investigate another incident in which an 18-year-old man was injured by gunfire on the left side of his chest and his right forearm. The shooting apparently took place was near the Coast Guard dock, but the victim was taken to surgery and unable to answer preliminary questions at the time of the investigation.

Both cases will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.
