Man Dies After Sunday Shooting

A Hispanic man, as yet unidentified by police, was shot and killed Sunday night in Estate Anna's Retreat, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the 40th homicide in the U.S. Virgin Islands this year, the 19th on St. Thomas.

The incident took place at about 6:30 p.m., according to the report. Police were not able to release details, including the name of the 33-year-old victim, as of early Monday afternoon.

Several men went to the Mariel C. Newton Command, Zone C, and told police that their friend had been shot. Officers went to the scene and found the victim in the roadway with several bullet wounds. Emergency medical technicians transported the victim by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was rushed into surgery.

Just after midnight, police were informed that the victim died as a result of his injuries.
