Viewing Offers Public Chance to Pay Respects to Slain Officer Colvin Georges

Viewing began Friday for Colvin Georges, an officer in the Virgin Islands Police Department, who was shot in the line of duty May 26 and died in a Miami hospital Saturday after a long struggle to recover from his wounds.

He will lie in repose at Government House on St. Thomas from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday.

A second viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the VIPD's Zone A. Command at the Alexander Farrelly Criminal Justice Center in Charlotte Amalie. A third and final viewing will by from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the school, with burial following at Eastern Cemetery in Smith Bay. Those who cannot attend can view a streaming video of the service online at www.mdmsc.com.

Georges body was accompanied to the airport in Miami by an honor guard of police officers.

Saturday's ceremony will include a eulogy by Colvin T. Georges Jr., a tribute by Keshana Georges, and remarks by Elroy Raymo of the Police Benevolent Association, Gov. John deJongh Jr., Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen, Police Commissioner Henry White, and Senate President Ronald Russell.
