Haiti Benefit Concert Set for Saturday at Yacht Haven Grande

Yacht Haven Grande will be filled with music and art Saturday afternoon, and well into the evening, during a benefit concert and art show for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The free concert will feature live music by Barefoot Davis, the Becca Darling Band, Down the Line, the Ahwee Band and Web from the Buzz. Each band is donating its time, with donation stations situated throughout the complex.
The benefit will run from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There’s also a raffle with $5 tickets with prizes ranging from local hotel stays and boat trips to fancy gift certificates. Proceeds from each event go to the American Red Cross relief efforts.
Simultaneously, Haitian Art will be featured at Mango Tango Seaside Art Gallery in the Yacht Haven Grande complex. The gallery is the only one on St. Thomas that specializes in Haitian art. Carol Sirhakas, who has been bringing Haitian art for years, has been an integral force in bringing awareness of the art to St. Thomas. She helped develop the gallery’s Haitian division.
Paintings, voodoo flags and sculpture created from recycled metal drums will be featured. Sirhakis will donate 10 percent of her sales to the American Red Cross, as will Mango Tango Gallery.
Sirhakis is also donating some paintings from her personal collection, which will be on view at Grand Cru Restaurant and Wine Bar at Yacht Haven Grande.
The event is a joint venture of Yacht Haven Grande and the USVI Hotel and Tourism Association.
