ADDY Awards Honor Local Advertising Creators

April 26, 2009 -- The stars of the advertising world were out in force Saturday night as Austin Advertising, Cool Signs, The Gumbs Group and MaLinda Media took multiple awards at the annual Advertising Club of the Virgin Islands ADDY Awards. But by night's end, MLB Creative had taken the most awards, as well as all but one of the Best of Category awards for Print, Radio, Interactive and Best of Show.
Lou Lambert of Lambert Media took the Best of TV Donald Plantz Award for his work on the Rwanda Project USVI. Lambert's project also took a good ADDY in the Public Service category.
Among other categories and awards, The Friends of St. Thomas Public Libraries received the Mosaic Award for the poster "Read a Book, Share its Treasure." Judge Gary Gilmore, the creative director off Interactive Access, said he liked the message the poster sent: "Reading is for everybody."
Marketing students were also featured at the event. Syvonne Richardson earned a Gold Student ADDY for her production of the UVI Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) 2008 Leadership Connection for FBLA Week. UVI Marketing Club President Jessica Sibilly was acknowledged for her many contributions to the 2009 ADDY process and her leadership achievements.
The judging took place on St. Thomas by three off-island advertising professionals, according to a news release from the Ad Club: Gilmore; Stephanie Krompier, design director at Sterling Brands; and Pat D'Amico, founding partner of Psynchronous Communications.

All winning local ADDY Awards are forwarded to the district competition, where winners of that competition will go forward to compete with the best advertisements from the United States and Caribbean in the National ADDY Competition.
The American Advertising Federation (AAF) represents thousands of advertising companies in the United States and the Caribbean. The ADDY Awards are sponsored by AAF and are the advertising industry's biggest competition, the release said, recognizing creative excellence in numerous categories of various media types. This year in the local competition, 150 entries were judged in 73 categories.
The AAF-USVI is a member of the American Advertising Federation and is part of the 4th District of Florida and the Caribbean. For membership information and entry materials for the 2009 competition, email Liza Margolis.
The event, which took place at Prior-Jalleck Hall on the Antilles School campus, began with a champagne reception compliments of Sugar Estate Distributing. First Bank was also a sponsor of the event.
