Education Will Fund Cost of Praxis II Exam for Teachers

Education Human Resources Director Karen L. Blyden advises territorial public school teachers that the Department of Education will pay the test costs and associated fees for the April 24th paper and pencil administration of the Praxis II exam.  Blyden says this effort continues in keeping with the department’s strong commitment to increase the number of certified and highly qualified teachers throughout the territory.

Elementary teachers who did not participate in HOUSSEand secondary teachers who are out of content must take and pass the Praxis II exam for certification and highly qualified status. The following Praxis II exams have been validated by the USVI Department of Education:  Elementary Education (0014),Special Education (0353), Science (0435), Reading (0201), Mathematics (0061), English (0041), and ESL (0360).
Interested persons may sign-up between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 19, at the Human Resources Offices located at 1834 Kongens Gade on St. Thomas and at Orange Grove for the St. Croix District.
Due to the limited number of available slots, interested individuals are asked to act quickly as the selections will be made on a first come, first serve basis. No telephone sign-ups will be allowed.  For more information, call 772-3848, ext. 26, 31, 32 or 34; or 774-0100, ext. 8052 or 8055.
