Apostolic Faith Mission Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Altona Church

For over 50 years the members of the Apostolic Faith Churches in the U.S.V.I. have been serving the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Caribbean. Many outstanding, law-abiding and God-fearing citizens were produced by this organization. Leaders can be found throughout the religious community whose foundation can be traced back to the teachings received while a part of this organization.
This year the 50th Anniversary Committee celebrates the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the Altona Church on St. Thomas. It will be honoring the church’s founder, Pastor Algernon Blyden, posthumously. He died on July 12 at the age of 101. Also being honored will be Pastor Wilfred Turnbull, proprietor of Sweet Corner here in Sub Base and his wife, Nancy Turnbull, and Marion Francis of the class of 1952, who has been the treasurer and secretary for many years.
Participants will celebrate with a dinner at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa. Tickets are $75 and can be obtained from VI Bridial & Tuxedo Center in Tutu Park Mall, Clover's Shoe-tique in the parking lot and All Occasion Flower Shop in Babel Plaza.
There will be an anniversary service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25. This will be followed by a week of night services from Sept. 25-30. The theme is Reflect! Rejoice! Rekindle!
