Government Employees’ Retirement System Scholarships Now Available

 

The Government Employees’ Retirement System (GERS) will present up to three scholarships to dependents of the GERS membership. The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has been responsible for the administration of the GERS Scholarship since its inception in 1998. 
Funded through the goodwill and generosity of the GERS investment managers, a scholarship trust fund was established at GERS on Feb. 11, 1992, for the benefit of dependents of GERS membership. The scholarships provide tuition support for four years to students enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Candidates for scholarships will be selected from eligible 2012 graduates of any of the territory’s high schools. To be eligible to apply, a student must be the child, step-child or legal dependent of a contributing member of GERS, be a graduating senior of a high school in the territory, and have a grade point average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All nominees must show financial need. Scholarships are worth up to $4,500 per year.
