Activist Devin “Dutchie” Robinson Targets V.I. Workers With New Book
V.I. native community activist, author and columnist Devin “Dutchie” Robinson will release his eighth book titled, “Power M.O.V.E.: How to Transition from Employee to Employer” in July 2012. Robinson published his first book in 2004 while a columnist at the Virgin Islands Daily News newspaper. Since that time he has led peace demonstrations, given keynote addresses at multiple events throughout the territory, and launched the 7-Year Project, a program that sends high-schoolers to visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
When asked of the significance of this book he said, “Over 75 percent of the crimes committed are economically-driven. People are hurting financially and continuously being let down by the direction of government. It is time for people to take matters into their own hands.” The book covers information on entrepreneurship practices and lays out a guideline on how workers who aspire to become employers should prepare for the move to avoid having to retreat to another job. It includes some of the tactics and pitfalls Robinson encountered and endured through in business.
The book has 16 chapters that are divided into four sections. The four sections coincide with the acronym M.O.V.E. (Mindset, Order, Vacate, Execute). It reveals the true motives behind the “occupy movement.”Robinson, who has been a business and economics professor since 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia, and owner of several businesses, will embark on a nationwide tour holding free workshops that give transition directives illustrating how anyone can go from employee to employer. Robinson said of his busy schedule, “I love to empower others and I love discussing business. This is why I teach as adjunct… I love bringing material to the classrooms that textbooks don’t... So to me, my schedule is never hectic. Once I know I am helping people and because I love what I do, time to do it never becomes an issue for me.”
