King of the Wing Presents Check to Nana Baby Children’s Home

Alpine Securities USVI, LLC, White Bay Group, Tutu Park Mall and the 2012 King of Wing Restaurant Champion Fat Turtle presented a check donation in the amount of $52,000 to the Nana Baby Children’s Home. These funds were raised at the third annual King of the Wing Competition, held on Saturday, June 16, at Smith Bay Park (formerly Lindqvist Beach)
According to Nana Baby Executive Director Beulah Wilson, these funds will be used to complete the installation of the solar panel system at the home and to help reduce the principal amount on the mortgage. Board chairman John Foster stated that these funds will have a major impact on the day to day operations of the home.
The Nana Baby Children’s Home is a home for orphaned children of the U.S. Virgin Islands between the ages of infancy to 12 years old. The children of the Nana Baby Home are cared for by Wilson with funds provided by the government of the USVI in conjunction with outside donations from private organizations.
The third annual King of the Wing event was the largest since its inception, with a turnout of over 3,000 people, 32 participants and double the money raised in 2011. Teams gathered in the hot sun to cook, sample, party and have a good time with the intention of winning the coveted King of the Wing title.
First place in the restaurant category was awarded to Fat Turtle following an exciting tie-breaker between it and XO Bar and Bistro. Coco Blue was awarded third place.
The top prize in the non-restaurant category was awarded to Capital Instincts. Second went to Philip Saunders and 3rd Place was awarded to Mortar & Pestle.
First place winners received an all expenses paid trip to the Captain Morgan distillery in St. Croix, courtesy of Captain Morgan and Bellows International.
