On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.

AARP Holds Community Conversations on Medicare and Social Security

AARP VI will be hosting three public conversations on Medicare and Social Security with seniors during the month of May as part of the Department of Human Services annual celebration of Older Americans Month.
Each of the following events will be held between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
• The first event will be held on St. Thomas at Palms Court Harbourview on Tuesday, May 15.
 • The second event will occur on Wednesday, May 23 on the island of St. John at St. Ursula’s Multi-Purpose Center in Cruz Bay.
•       The final event will be held on Thursday, May 24 on St. Croix at the University of the Virgin Islands Great Hall.
The conversations will focus on the experiences and concerns seniors have with Medicare and Social Security.  These two federal programs form the foundation for health and financial security during retirement and AARP feels that all Americans have earned the right to have a say about these two critical programs.
