Spc. Alderman Lesmond, allied trade specialist, 651st Maintenance Company, Virgin Islands National Guard will leave June 8 for training camp at Camp Pendleton, California, to compete for a spot on the U.S. Armed Forces soccer team.
Lesmond, 34, is one of 10 invitees to the training camp from the Army component that will have a chance to make the 18-man roster that will compete in the first ever Conseil International du Sport Militaire World Football Trophy tournament at the end of June.
He is the only National Guard or Reserve component member to be invited to the training camp from the Army component.
Capt. Roye Locklear, head coach of the All-Army soccer team, selected Lesmond to attend the training camp from a pool of over 200 applicants.
The U.S. Armed Forces team is made up of members from the four branches of the military: Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.
Lesmond is a member of the Virgin Islands National Soccer Team, and he captained the team in the 2011 qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup.
