911 in USVI Still Lacking Spanish Speakers

Although the U.S. Virgin Islands has a substantial Spanish-speaking population and a significant minority who speak Spanish only, those who call 911 for emergency assistance may have difficulty communicating, because there is still a shortage of bilingual operators.

Dunston Sues Governor Over Demotion

V.I. Superior Court Judge Michael Dunston is suing Gov. Kenneth Mapp to reverse Mapp's removal of Dunston as presiding judge, arguing V.I. law does not allow the governor to change his tenure in office nor to reduce his pay.

Wanted Man Turns Himself In

Nathaniel Thomas Jr., 27 of Frederiksted, turned himself in to the V.I. Police Department at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday. On Sunday, the VIPD issued a wanted poster for Thomas.

DPNR Hosts Business After Hours

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources Division of Environmental Protection will host the next St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, at the Petite Pump Room Bar and Restaurant. The event will celebrate “Small Business Environmental Assistance Week.”
There will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, the Famous Chamber $2 Bar. Members, guests and potential members are encouraged to attend.
