Pistarckle Theater offers a course called “Poetic Beginnings” from Feb. 9 through April 1, taught by P.J. Crosby. It will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and cost $25 per week. The workshop is structured for at-risk youth with the purpose of teaching that writing can be fun. Students will sharpen their writing and speaking skills while creating their own books or plays. The course is sponsored by the Department of Education, the Lana Vento foundation and LEPC.
Pistarckle Offers Writing Workshop for Youth
Designed to enable youth to express their feelings and express their observations of the world through the written and spoken word, students will study some of Shakespeare’s best work in order to attain a better appreciation of the history of poetry and the spoken word. By the end of the eight weeks, students will willingly perform on or off stage, quoting their own works and works from published poets, particularly Shakespeare. Also, students will have accumulated enough poems to form a group compilation book. The course is for youth ages 11-18.
Pistarckle Theater is located at 4126 Anna’s Retreat, Tillet Gardens. For information, contact Education Director Larry Bryant at 775-7877 or 719-351-8214.
