Mango Tango Opens ‘Sublime to Zany Exhibition’

June 24, 2009 - Mango Tango Seaside Art Gallery will hold an opening reception for the “Sublime to Zany Exhibition“ from 5:30-8:30 p.m., on Friday, June 26. The Yacht Haven Grande gallery presents the art of former gallery assistant Amanda Arguello, who is continuing her studies in Colorado, and the creations of musician and co-gallery owner Smokey Pratt.
Arguello is a mixed-media artist, whose first field of study was photography. A painting by her is more about texture than form. Her creations on canvas include collage; her works on hardboard include oil and encaustic images sealed in epoxy. She’s a young, contemporary artist whose work attracts new collectors. Collage, in the hands of Arguello, subverts subject matter. Her work is emotional and spiritual with organic sensibilities.

Pratt‘s 4-foot, cut-out painted cows get people thinking, laughing or otherwise amused. His cut outs, paintings and cartoons revolve around simple lines and basic colors. These robust and funny visions continue to find a significant client base.
Smooth-edged cutout forms have been used by artists to accentuate color and outline. Cutout has also been a vital part of modern art because of the way it flattens out forms and the picture space. Pratt’s cows belong to that tradition.
