May 7, 2009 - Are you an aspiring or active poet, writer, artist or musician? Maybe you'd just like to sit in the back of the room and enjoy when others share these talents? Or maybe you prefer more of an administrative role as an assistant organizing an event for others to be expressive.
The Rock Collective is seeking additional core members to assist with the organization and management of its monthly event, The Rock Lounge, which is a free, open mic experience of poetry, music, visual arts and other creative expression. This Friday, May 8, all are invited to participate, listen and see, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. as they do every second Friday of the month.
The current home for the Rock Lounge is The Frenchtown Deli located in downtown Charlotte Amalie at the eastern most point of the waterfront behind the Frenchtown Post Office. Parking is available in the general area. As usual, the food, drinks and other refreshments, will be available all evening for purchase by the Frenchtown Deli.
In addition to actively seeking additional members of the core Rock Collective, what's new is that they are taking suggestions and trying new and creative things including offering a suggested theme of the month which can be used as an option for inspiring creative expression of participants in a variety of artistic forms. The theme will be decided every month prior giving participants an opportunity to take their time in using their form of creativity so that they can present it at the next lounge. This month's theme(s) are African Heritage and Liberation; therefore, we are featuring and promoting the International Poets that will be traveling down to the territory for the MICROPHONE MESSENJAHS Spoken Word Extravaganza.
Parents bringing children are especially encouraged to come in the earlier hour of the lounge, with more adult freedom of content shared in the latter hour.
