On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.

Police ID Victim of Tuesday Shooting

Detectives identified the body of the man found fatally shot Tuesday in Upper Hidden Valley as 38-year-old Victor Manuel Otano Beltre, a native of the Dominican Republic.

No Record of Guns Confiscated by DPNR Cop Accused of Drug Smuggling

DPNR Enforcement Officer Roberto Tapia testified in March that he regularly confiscated boaters’ firearms but DPNR has no records at all of any firearms confiscated by Tapia.

Battle of the Island Bands Set for January 7

The Battle of the Island Bands Day will feature the Tim West Band, Brian Dean, On Target, John and Jeremy, Web Fingors and the Encore Band, competing from 4-10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Big Bamboo Burger and Seafood Shack. There will be food and drink specials. Raffle prizes will benefit the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands. A winning ticket could get a person a trip to Jost from Fun in de Sun – 6 Pack Boat, two round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Paradise Getaways, a vacation for two to one of several resort destinations or one of several other prizes.
Big Bamboo will also offer a rewards card good for ‘buy one and you get drink and food specials any day.’ Thirty percent of the proceeds from reward cards will go to the CFVI.
The event is sponsored by Presidente Imported Beer. Come out and vote for a favorite band.
