Over 100 Resident’s Use BIR’s New Online Tax Portal

Just in time for tax season 2025 Bureau of Interanl Revenue Director Joel A. Lee is pleased to announce the launch of VI Quick File, BIR’s new online portal for filing income tax returns. The creation of the digital tool is the latest example of the Bryan-Roach Administration delivering on its long standing commitment to modernizing how the Government of the Virgin Islands serves its citizen’s, and its unwavering support of transparent finances.

Since the platform went live this tax season, over 100 Virgin Islanders have taken advantage of the convenience inherent in uploading their tax documents remotely. Filers who have completed their 2024 Individual Income Tax Return (Form 1040 or Form 1040SR), or Form 4868 Automatic Extension of Time, can upload pdf versions of these documents to the platform for processing. As well as use their credit card to pay any outstanding tax obligations via our online payment portal.

Taxpayers who are accustomed to having their returns prepared by a tax professional or other party, and who want to file online can do so by simply declaring a designee in the VI Quick File platform. By utilizing the account delegation feature a registered user can empower a designated induvial to upload their tax return for them.

The deadline to file your personal income tax statements is April 15, 2025, and Director Lee is urging the public to get their taxes in on time, and save themselves the inconvenience of dealing with any potential late fees or penalties that may arise from filing untimely. For the convenience of the public BIR has set the deadline to register for the VI Quick File portal at 8:00 p.m. April 15th.

To start the registration process applicants must request a personal identification number (PIN) by emailing oit_register@irb.gov.vi — please do not include any Social Security numbers in the email. Once your email has been processed BIR staff will reach out to you requesting that you furnish them with valid photo identification, as well as the personal information they will need to verify your identity. For filers who have submitted tax returns to IRB in the past, the registration process can take as little as thirty minutes once all required documentation has been submitted to the Bureau. However, the registration process may take up to 24 hours for first time filers. Please note, that applications made after the close of business will be processed at the earliest on the next business day. Returns prepared by hand, or very complex returns -those that typically exceed 50 pages – should be submitted to IRB in person.

For more information about the online filing service, please contact BIR’s Computer Operations via email at oit_support@irb.gov.vi or by phone at 715-1040.
