Kraft Heinz has voluntarily recalled approximately 5,760 cases of its wild cherry-flavored Capri Sun juice drink after a diluted cleaning solution was inadvertently introduced into a production line at one of its factories, the V.I. Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs announced Wednesday.
According to Kraft Heinz, only the wild cherry-flavored Capri Sun drinks made and sold in the United States with the “Best When Used By” date of June 25, 2023, are affected.
“The issue was discovered after we received several consumer complaints about the taste of the affected product. The company is actively working with retail partners and distributors to remove the potentially impacted product from circulation,” Kraft Heinz said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the brand’s parent company, Capri Sun AG, told CBS News that “there is no risk of a serious health issue.”
Consumers who purchased these items should not consume the product and can return it to the store where it was purchased, the release stated. Consumers also can contact Kraft Heinz from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday, at 1-800-280-8252 to see if a product is part of the recall and to receive reimbursement.
