Congratulates To  MATHCOUNTS State Competition Winners

The Virgin Islands Department of Education proudly congratulates all students who participated in the 2025 MATHCOUNTS State Competition held today, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the UVI Innovation Center on St. Thomas. VIDE extends its sincere congratulations to the top performing students: First Place: Cole Cullinan, Good Hope Country Day School. Second Place: Roman Overmyer, Antilles School. Third Place: Leon Perkins, Church of God Holiness Academy. Fourth Place: Elize Acuna, Antilles School.

The four finalists will represent the Virgin Islands as a team in the MATHCOUNTS National Finals on May 10-13th, 2025, in Washington, D.C. The Antilles School won the team competition, which qualified math coach Michele Humphries to coach the top four students in the national competition.

The remaining top ten students are: Moriah Craker (Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School) in fifth, Mia Alessandri (Antilles School) in sixth, Hudson Mirocha (Good Hope Country Day School) took seventh, Zachary Richards (Free Will Baptist School) eight, Evan Fahie (Lockhart K-8th School) ninth, and Layla Pierre (Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School) in tenth.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas II. The VIDE extends a heartfelt thank you to all students, coaches, teachers, administrators, sponsors, and supporters for their contributions to this year’s competition. Special recognition is given to MATHCOUNTS State Coordinator Ludence A. Romney, St. Thomas-St. John District Mathematics Coordinator Avon Benjamin, and St. Croix District Mathematics Coordinator Jaynae Williams for their leadership and dedication.

MATHCOUNTS is a nationally recognized program designed to promote excellence in mathematics among middle school students, nurturing a love for problem-solving while enhancing critical-thinking skills. The program plays a vital role in preparing students for future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields essential to the global economy.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education is incredibly proud of our young mathematicians and looks forward to celebrating their future achievements. Congratulations to the winners and all the student participants of the 2025 MATHCOUNTS Competition.
