The Department of Human Services announces a public hearing will be held Thursday, Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) via a virtual Teams Meeting to present the FY 2025 Intended Use Plan for the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG).
The SSBG is a flexible source of federal funding that allows states and territories to design social service programming tailored to their population’s unique needs. This funding supports a variety of programs essential to improving the well-being of individuals and families in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
For FY 2025, VIDHS has strategically aligned its SSBG-funded programs with key goals, including: Achieving or maintaining economic self-support: Programs such as Employment Services and Independent and Transitional Living Services provide job training, skills development, and support for individuals transitioning to independent living.
Achieving or maintaining self-sufficiency: Services like Information and Referral and Day Care for Children connect families with essential resources and assistance to reduce dependency Preventing or remedying neglect, abuse, or exploitation: Protective Services for Adults and Children, along with Foster Care programs, ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals by addressing maltreatment and providing safe environments.
Preventing or reducing inappropriate institutional care: Home-Based Services and Home-
Delivered Meals enable individuals to maintain independence and avoid institutionalization by providing in home support Securing referrals or admission to institutional care when necessary: Case Management and support services ensure that those requiring higher levels of care receive it in appropriate settings.
