Feb. 2, 2002 – The creativity and diversity of Christiansted's art and craft emporiums will be on display as six galleries host their third monthly Art Thursday after-hours event this week in cooperation with downtown jewelry shops and restaurants.
Between 5 and 9 p.m., art appreciators are invited to take a "gallery crawl" to check out the following fine-art offerings:
Campen Gallery – a new print and poster show.
Christiansted Gallery – work by seasonal island resident Nancy Pistilli and a painting by the late St. Croix artist Jean Merwin that's available for purchase.
Danica Art Gallery – work by Washington, D.C., artist Emily Davis, who's all of 10 years old.
Gallery Gia – a poster show by Manor School students.
Maria Henle Studio – a solo show of new oils by the owner-artist.
Mark Austin Gallery – the owner's latest work.
Also keeping their doors open for the occasion will be these businesses:
I.B. Designs – new jewelry pieces featuring chaney, bits of old broken pottery found in the ground locally.
Iona Skye – jewelry and two-dimensional works by St. Thomas artists.
Jewelweed – a three-day trunk show of work by Louise Norrell, an artist-jeweler visiting from the U.S. mainland.
And contributing to the evening with offerings in the gustatory arts, the Bacchus, Bombay Club, Kendrick's, Indies, Rum Runners, Savant and Tutto Bene restaurants will be offering wine and dessert specials.
Art Thursday goers can make their stops in any order throughout the evening. The galleries are located within easy walking distance of one another in the downtown Christiansted area except for Campen, which is in Gallows Bay. It's suggested that participants make this one the first or last stop of the evening, by car, and otherwise do the tour on foot.
