STUDENTS WIN PRIZES FOR POLLUTION MODELS

As part of planning for the Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference held May 16-17 at the Westin Resort on St. John, the organizers sponsored a contest challenging the territory's seventh and eighth grade students to construct models depicting nonpoint source pollution. Four winners were named.

If you'd like to learn how to design, set up and maintain a drip irrigation system, attend a free University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service workshop on the subject Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cruz Bay.

COAST GUARD HOSTING MARINE SAFETY EXPO

The U.S. Coast Guard dock at King's Wharf will be the scene of an exposition Saturday promoting good marine practices and demonstrating the rescue and law-enforcement capabilities of local and regional agencies. Highlights will include mock drug chases in the harbor and helicopter rescue demonstrations throughout the day. Plus, there'll be free burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks.

SEABORNE INTRODUCING FREQUENT-FLYER 'SEA-MILES'

Seaborne Airlines will launch its SeaMiles frequent flyer program on Saturday, May 18, giving passengers the opportunity to earn miles toward future Seaborne flights, car rentals and stays at San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John hotels, as well as travel vouchers good toward trips anywhere.

The company that produced Innovative Telephone's 2002 directory, Pacific West Yellow Pages, has filed suit in the U.S. District Court's Eastern District of California charging that Innovative failed to pay its bill and then canceled its contract. Innovative issued a statement Thursday disputing the allegations.

PFA OKS $35M IN BOND MONEY FOR ROBIN BAY CASINO

The Public Finance Authority has approved $35 million in private activity bonds for the Seven Hills Beach Resort and Casino on St. Croix, along with $12 million for Botany Bay's developers, $10.7 million for Hovensa and $425,000 for air conditioning the new Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School gym.
